The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science JCNS offers access to dedicated neutron scattering instruments for users. Users can apply twice a year for beam time at instruments at FRM-II, ILL and SNS.

Proposals

All instruments operated by the JCNS are accessible by external proposals to both the national and international user community. Beam time allocation is based on the recommendations of the external JCNS Scientific Committee. Proposals are collected at certain deadlines by submission through the JCNS online user office system. Upcoming deadlines for proposal submission are

Some general information how to write a JCNS proposals you can find here. Please do not use the FRM II proposal submission system for proposals to be submitted to JCNS Calls, especially those requesting EU support.
The online proposal system is open anytime for submission of proposals. Proposals on e-mail or paper forms for beam time at JCNS instruments at FRM-II are not accepted anymore. On proposals for beam time at JCNS instruments at ILL and SNS only submission via e-mail using the proposal form given below are accepted.

Only proposals for short term projects are accepted at current at JCNS. No proposals for long term projects can be submitted at JCNS for the time being.

Besides request for beam time in the regular proposal submission procedure urgent beam time can be requested at instruments of JCNS as director discretion time. This option is restricted to very urgent high level scientific projects. For the request of urgent beam time a proposal has to be submitted electronically and an informal letter has to be send to the JCNS directors validating the request for urgent beam time.

The following instruments can be accessed through JCNS at Instititut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, France (CRG instruments) and SNS Oak Ridge, USA:

Beam time at these CRG instruments is accessable via JCNS for german affiliated users only.
JCNS offers financial support for travel to experiments to these instruments, for details see Support.

Proposals for these CRG instruments cannot be submitted electronically. Please download the proposal form here and submit it by e-mail to neutron@fz-juelich.de. Note that for these instruments EU support for travel cost is not granted.

Proposals will be selected based on their scientific merit. New user groups will get preferential treatment.
